Just twenty-seven kilometers east of Vancouver is the city of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. It sits peacefully on the north bank where the Fraser River meets the Pitt River. Each year, the PoCo Grand Prix Criterium bicycle race features men and women cyclists from around the world. Racers navigate forty to sixty-five laps on a 1.3-kilometer circuit, giving spectators plenty of action to see. Other events include Canada Day Celebrations, Christmas in Leigh Square, and the Terry Fox Hometown Run. Port Coquitlam preserves 266 hectares of natural areas and parkland along with forty-six kilometers of trails, including the Traboulay PoCo Trail. Other nearby recreational areas include Buntzen Lake with its beach, walking trails, and canoeing locations, Colony Farm Regional Park featuring a wildlife and bird sanctuary, and Pinecone Burke Provincial Park which offers hiking and first-rate mountain biking on Burke Mountain. Port Coquitlam also provides a nice selection of retail shopping at Dominion Triangle/Fremont Village, PoCo Place Mall, Prairie Mall, and the Downtown area, to name just a few.
