Killarney is a family-friendly residential community in Vancouver, British Columbia. The community is mostly made up of single-family homes and multi-family homes, with a mix of highrises which are located in the Fraserlands along the Fraser River, which was recently developed. Champlain Heights is a collection of retailers and amenities situated in Killarney, and it’s walking distance for most residents. The community has a lot to offer, including Everett Crowley Park, which is 40 hectares of beautiful trails, an off-leash park, and plenty of greenery. The community is located in the southeast part of the city, and it borders the Fraser River and Burnaby.
Killarney is considered a more affordable community among the high housing prices of Vancouver living. Killarney has made the East Van enclave a perfect place for families who work and play in Vancouver. Many of the older single-family homes were built in the post-war era, and there are a number of farmhouses from the 1920s. Many of these homes have been completely renovated for some beautiful and modern living spaces. The first housing co-operative was built in 1970 in Killarney. There are new townhomes currently being constructed in many spots in the community. The average price of an apartment or condo in Killarney is $540,000. The average townhouse price is $775,000. Single-family homes average $1.8 million. For half a duplex, the average cost is around $1.4 million, and for a full-duplex, it’s about $2.2 million. The range of home prices begin at $340,000 and can cost up to $2.4 million.
Killarney is a popular community because of all it has to offer. It’s a quiet community that is diverse, and it’s one of the newer communities in the city. While it used to be mostly forest and farmland until World War II, it’s become an excellent option for many families and couples. There’s still a small apple orchard near 54th Avenue and Tyne Street. There is a diverse population of people from China, Korea, the Caribbean, the Philippines, Ireland, and Vietnam. The multiculturalism in the neighbourhood is apparent along Kingsway. The neighbourhood boundaries of Killarney are 41st Ave, 54th Ave, Boundary Road, and Victoria/Argyle. There are four elementary schools in the community, which is another great perk for families. Dr. George M. Weir, Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, MacCorkindale, and Waverly serve kindergarten to grade seven students. Killarney Secondary School is the largest secondary school in the city and has an impressive fine arts program. It’s located on 41st Avenue. Champlain Square Mall is a must-see for visitors and residents of the area, and it’s home to a large grocery store, coffee shops, major banks, a fresh produce market, and a public library. Residents can find some incredible restaurants along Kingsway that serve a variety of cuisines.
